Why one mudd? Anas رضي الله عنه reported that the Prophet ﷺ would perform ghusl with a sāʿ (about four mudds) and wudu with a single mudd. A mudd is the amount held in two cupped hands — around 650ml. Wasting water is discouraged even at a flowing river; using little is not a shortcut, it is the sunnah itself.
