Before everything

Allah was — and nothing was before Him

Close your eyes and try to imagine nothing. No sky. No stars. No light, no water, no time. It is impossible to imagine — but there was such a moment.

The Prophet ﷺ taught that Allah existed when nothing else existed at all. He was First, before every single thing. Everything that would ever exist was still waiting to be created by Him.

Sahih al-Bukhari 3191

The first creation

The Pen

The very first thing Allah created was the Pen — al-Qalam. And the very first thing the Pen ever heard was a command from its Creator:

“Write.”

The Pen asked what it should write, and Allah told it to write down everything that would ever happen, from that moment until the Day of Judgment. Before there was a sky to rain or an earth to grow, the whole story was already written.

Fifty thousand years before

Everything was written down

The Prophet ﷺ told us that Allah wrote the destinies of all creation fifty thousand years before He created the heavens and the earth.

Every raindrop that would ever fall. Every leaf. Every person's name. Nothing that happens is a surprise to Allah — He knew it, and it was written, long before the world began.

Above the deep

His Throne was upon the water

Before the heavens and the earth were made, there was a great water — and above it, the mighty Throne of Allah, the largest of all His creations.

“…and His Throne was upon the water…” — Surah Hud

No eye had seen this water. No ship had sailed it. Only Allah knows how vast it was, and His Throne was over it all.

A sign for those who think

Joined together — then parted

The Quran tells us something amazing: the heavens and the earth were once one joined thing, and Allah split them apart from each other.

The heavens and the earth were a joined entity, and We separated them — Surah al-Anbiya

Allah asks the ones who deny Him: do they not see this? The sky above and the ground below were once together — and He is the One who parted them.

Not in a hurry — by design

Six days for the heavens and the earth

Allah created the heavens and the earth in six days — and then He rose above His Throne, in a way that befits His majesty.

Could Allah have created everything in an instant? Of course — He only says "Be," and it is. But He chose six days, teaching us that even the greatest works unfold in careful, perfect stages.

One above another

Seven heavens, and lamps in the lowest

Allah built seven heavens, one above another, in perfect layers — and the Quran challenges us to look up and search for a single flaw. You will not find one.

And the nearest heaven — the one we can see — Allah decorated with lamps: the stars that light up our nights, every one of them placed by Him.

The secret of life

Every living thing, made from water

In the same beautiful verse that describes the parting of the heavens and the earth, Allah shares the secret of all life:

And We made from water every living thing — Surah al-Anbiya

Every tree, every flower, every creature that moves — all of them made from water. That is why every garden begins with rain, and why your own body is mostly water too. Will they not then believe?

Creatures we cannot see

Angels of light, jinn of smokeless fire

The Prophet ﷺ taught that the angels were created from light — beings who never disobey Allah, who worship Him day and night.

And the jinn were created from smokeless fire, before humankind. Like us, they choose to obey or disobey — and like us, they will answer to Allah.

The best of days

And then — Adam, from clay

After the heavens, the earth, the angels, and the jinn, Allah created something entirely new: the first human. He created Adam عليه السلام from clay, shaped by His own two Hands.

And do you know which day it was? The Prophet ﷺ said the best day the sun ever rises upon is Friday — because on Friday, Adam was created.

From that first human came every person who has ever lived — including you.

All praise belongs to Allah,
Lord of all the worlds

The Pen, the Throne, the water, the heavens, the earth, the angels, the jinn — and you. Every one created by Allah, and every one written down before the world began. Subhan'Allah.
